It hit studios back in 1983, directed by Ralph Bakshi
with art direction provided by the legendary Frank Frazetta. An animated
feature film the spawned fans who, long after seeing the movie, sought
a high-quality dvd release which would allow them to revisit a fanastic
movie set in a fantastic time. Did Blue Underground deliver with this
2 disc limited edition release?

Fancy
packaging? Kinda. We have a fairly typical slipcover with two exceptions.
The first is that it's partially clear, which is always a nice touch.
The second, and much better exception, is that it has a holographic
relief to it, meaning, if viewed from an angle, it appears 3D. Unfortunately
I couldn't capture this effect with the camera. It is a neat effect
though, and is definitely a step up from the standard edition. The
slip case slides off nicely, and is constructed of a fairly thick
plastic. Not bad, but not great either.

Note from the front, the clear case acts as a graphic belly band. "Darkwolf", a character from the movie is shown on the back of the slip case. Removing the slip care reveals some info and imagery hidden by this graphic.

A
2 disc set, both dvd's are adorned with red and blue imagery, a
nice design element feeding back to the red and blue title of the
movie, "Fire and Ice". Disc one has artwork taken from the movie
on it, while disc two is covered with a Frank Frazetta peice. The
snapcase is clear, with a white (think ice) flip in the middle,
which holds ta disc.
There
is no insert, rather, the chapter selection is printed on the cover
paper that is inside the dvd case.

What can I say? Although it's a "limited edition", there is no sign of any sort of numbering or certificate on this set. It's really just a standard dvd case with a nicer than usual slip that covers it. Is there anything wrong with the build of this set? No. Are there any extras? Nope. Will it look good if facing forward on your dvd shelf. Yep! Did I buy it and I'm glad I did? Absolutely!
