Arahan Limited Edition (Korea)

written by Juice / photos by Juice

ARAHAN! This fun action/comedy movie rocked in the theaters, and deserved a solid LE. We were finally given one, shall we see how it holds up?

We get a nice, heavy, sturdy box, which has a belly-band wrapped around it. The box itself is made from cardboard, with a fantastically textured paper that really pumps up the quality of the box. The top itself fits into the base of the box, but without the belly-band, it would open on it's own.

The belly-band is made of a thin but stiff and durable vellum. Printed on the front of the belly-band is an image showing the contents of the LE, along with the DTS and 12+ rating. The back has more information, showing, in Korean, the contents of the 2 DVDs included in the set.

An interesting note, the title of the movie on the front is actually a seperate piece of paper that is glued to the box. This doesn't spoil the quality at all, just an interesting obeservation.

Opening the box by removing the lid, you are presented with the quad panel case that holds the 2 DVDs. There is a thin sheet of paper that is the same as the paper coating the set which is used to pull lift up the contents of the box for easier access. Nice touch!

The contents are stacked neatly, and fit well in the box

The quad panel book is fairly standard construction. The artwork is very nice, the front and back have been made to look like an old, stained book. Opening the 2 panels, the spread shows the 6 masters in the movie, along with information about each in Korean. Folding out the entire book, you see images of our main characters as well as some more Korean text. The dvd's have white, red, and black printed on them, very stylish, very nice.

The OST that comes with this set comes in a slide box. A strange way to treat an OST, but it works well. The front of the box has the press image that we've seen on the Arahan website. The back sports a track list and a couple of images. The sliding mechanism is a bit shaky, but it works.

The cards that come with the set are all attached but are perferated in case you want to tear them apart and show them seperately. They're printed on a heavy stock paper, that is glossy on one side and matte on the other. The glossy side sports the images, while the back has Korean text that I'm assuming relates to the image on the card. All of the images are of characters in the movie, and are press images that don't actually occur in the movie.

Last but not least, we come to the poster included in this set. Printed on glossy paper, it folds out to display the image of our hero and his sword. Again, not an image that occurs in the movie, but a great press image and a nice looking poster.

This is a tough set to find anymore. I'm not sure what amount it was limited to (if anyone has the information, please let me know and I'll update this review), but it appears to be sold out on most sites. For the price, I think it's a great set. Available for under $50.00, you get a great box, 2 DVDs, an OST (love OSTs), "trading" cards, and a poster.

- Juice's Verdict -

- Build Quality: 7 -

A sturdy, heavy box ups the score here. I can't imagine this set will fall apart anytime soon. Be wary of the incredibly textured paper covering the set, on the edges it has lifted up a bit, but only because of how textured it is.

- Content and Extras: 7.5 -

I'm a sucker for sets that include an OST. On top of that, this LE comes with nice cards and a good looking poster.

- Overall Rating: 7.5 -
