Azumi Limited Edition (Japan)

written by Juice / photos by Juice

Azumi! A action packed movie straight from Japan is given it's own special limited edition.

The silverish interior of the set is covered in a clear plastic case that slips over the box, protecting it from scratches and super-imposing a second image of Azumi on the front.

The case slides off to the left, and has an image of the herione, Azumi, printed on the front, along with the name of the movie in Japanese. The plastic cover adds a nice 3D effect to the set, and if you look closely, you can see a faint screen image of background grass/earth on the plastic case. The only problem with the plastic case is that it's prone to get scratched. Be careful when moving it around a great deal.

The DVDs sit in a quad folding storage case, that is adorned on one side with the black, silver, and red image of Azumi on a field of war. Flip it over, and you have a full color spread of Azumi and her assassin crew. The 2 dvds snap into the middle under the flaps.

Inside on the left we have a nice close up of Azumi, and on the right a close up of the main villian of the film.

You may notice that the images above of the reflection portion of the disc haven't come out very well. I had a difficult time taking pictures of this set, since it is extremely reflective to light. To give you an example of just how reflective it is, I held it up to my ceiling and shone a light on it. You can see the image reflects very well onto the ceiling.

The reflection nature of the set is great, in my opinion is mirrors the reflective aspect of the blades used in the movie.

One of the extras that comes with this set is a small full color saddlestitch booklet. It is simply entitled "Azumi the Movie, Imags from the Motion Picture "AZUMI". The cover has a nice image of Azumi's sword, with the villans white blade faded out in the background. Flip the book over, and you have a cloes up of the white blade. The interior has several images from the movie, as well as candid images of the actors, actress, and director.

There is a second booklet that comes with this set, a small, saddlestitched Manga book that shows some of the story itself. I seemed to have misplaced mine, and will post pictures of it the moment I find it. I've changed the rating below accordingly.

This isn't an especially fancy set, but it is a nice looking LE. There are much cheaper versions of this disc around, so it's really up to you if you'd like to find this set and pay over $60 US for something you can purchase for around $15 US in a non-LE form. Of course, the non-LE doesn't have the stylish packaging or extra books...

- Juice's Verdict -

- Build Quality: 7 -

Even though this is a fairly normal box, the construction is good, and the plastic exterior is not flimsy.

- Content and Extras: 7 -

It's a DTS release, and it comes with a nice small booklet, and a nifty manga book that let's you read into the story before you watch the movie.

- Overall Rating: 7 -
