Big Fish LE (Korea)

written by KingLir / photos byKingLir

Big Fish, another amazing fantasy brought to screen by the visionary director Tim Burton. This movie was released worldwide as a single disc keep-case release – with one exception: The Korean Limited Edition that adds (to the same single disc) better packaging and great collectables with no really price increase.
Few months after the first release went OOP it was re-release at a really worthy price on KoreanDVDs and it's still available. Above you may find some of the reasons why collectors unjustly (as this review will try to show) underrated this set.

Let's start with the external packaging – A high quality cardboard slipcase colored as an old book with removable UPC & DVD information sheet.

The slip-case has really nice texture and all the black print is engraved except from the BIG FISH logo that protrudes with the tree logo.

Inside we find the transparent Keep-case with really good double-side print

And the 24-page hard cover Book with 8 illustrations drawings called: Fairy Tale For A Grown-Up (for a complete scan of the book click on the picture to download PDF) It's exactly the size of the keep-case.

Inside the book, usually between the two last pages, you get 2 collectables that are different from set to set. Good or Bad? Depends on how you look at it - Good – "I got 2 collectables that are really limited". Bad – "I can't get all the collectables produced" (unless I will buy a lot of sets).

The first one is a Film Frame presented in a very nice smooth cardboard that can show different scenes from the movie. It's 18x12 CM in size.

The Film is like Picture Film but with full color, as such you need to watch thought a very strong light to see what's on it. So it was almost impossible to picture or scan it – but here is something to let you get the feeling.

Second is the Fridge Magnet that can show different pictures from the movie & the key sentence connected to it. Here are some of the magnets you could get (only one in a set!) It's 10x7.5 CM in size.

The movie tagline says "An Adventure Big as Life Itself" – this set not nearly the biggest but in my opinion it's probably the best release ever to its price range, which is the lowest range for LEs. Good LE from Sony-Columbia – hope they will start release more LEs like this instead of their Superbit editions

- King Lir's Verdict -

- Build Quality: 6.5 -

Probably the maximum a cardboard slipcase can get plus the hard cover and quality paper book. The two collectables are also well made.

- Content and Extras: 7.5 -

Amazing 24-page booklet and two more cool collectables. I would have given it more, but it's a shame they didn't make a set with all the DVD collectables contained in it.

- Overall Rating: 7 -

Just Buy It!!!
