Alien vs. Predator LE (USA)

written by Juice / photos by Juice

The AVP Limited Edition collectible dvd gift set, limited to 25,000 copies, is our set up for review today. Another gift set from the USA, let's take a closer look and check out this installment of the Aliens galaxy come to DVD.

We've got a good size box here, almost exacly the same dimensions as the R1 Hellboy box. Set in the front are two small windows, encasing the 2 miniature busts that come with this set. The sides of the box are tastefully done, the right side (same side the Alien bust is on) has a nice close-up of an Alien head. The left side of the box (same side the Predator bus t is on) is adorned with a shot of the Predator.

The box is made out of a card stock paper, medium weight. The two plastic fronts are fairly thin and flimsy, but get the job done as a window and desk protectant.

Inside the box the the DVD sits in the rear, while the two busts sit in their own seperate box. Pulling the box out, you see that it in itself can be a small storage/showing box.

Flip the box over, and you see your LE number printed on the underside in bold, black letters over a white background. Onward to the busts!

Going into the small box housing the busts, we see they are packed nicely in a piece of molded and compressed foam. They are tied down with twistes to stop any movement while shipping. The busts are made out of heavy, nice quality plastic. You may notice that a piece of my Alien bust is broken. It arrived this way, but with all of the packaging, I'm not sure how it broke. I'm guessing it was broken before shipment.

They are well detailed, and it's nice to be able to have them small enough to pick up and inspect closely.

Last but not least is the dvd itself. The standard chapter list is present, and there is a slipcase to slide over the dvd case. Nothing fancy or exciting, but it looks nice.

Another R1 that doesn't fail, but then again, doesn't greatly impress me. Everything works, but coming on the heels of the Alien head, I, Robot head, and now the upcoming "Monster" box, this set falls short of really making a solid statement for itself. Note about my comments below, some are the same as my comments for Hellboy. I did this because I felt they best described my feelings about this set.

- Juice's Verdict -

- Build Quality: 7 -

Although the box isn't made out of the greatest materials (heavy stock paper, thin acrylic), the detailed miniature busts ups this score.

- Content and Extras: 7 -

Only 2 extras, the minature busts. They are nicely detailed, well painted, and even though they're small, they look great on your DVD shelf.

- Overall Rating: 7 -
