Panic Room Triple Deluxe Edition (Japan)

written by Tsunami / photos by Tsunami

Time to look into this fresh breath for the slipcases, an aluminum box. This nice set had a limited run of 5000 copies, but it's still available over at Amazon (japan). But before you decide on buyin lets look a little more into this edition.

From the info that is possible to gather from Amazon Japan, it wasn't possible to confirm that this was actually an aluminum set. I didn't know when I ordered it that it was. So it came as a nice surprise when it landed on my doorstep and turned out to be a very solid, technically speaking, set.

As (almost) always, the promo shots didn't tell me anything about how it actually would look, but this time it actually worked in its advantage.

On the front there's the "Panic Room" text and Jodie Fosters name and the title of the edition below all that, on this side the text is pretty small and really doesn't fill the cover, which is pretty nice. On the back, they have made the same thing, only bigger letters and bigger spacing between the texts. This is nice also, it gives the feel that the cover isn't repetetive in its design. As thick aluminum would feel, this set really feels solid, and its not one you'd just jam into your shelf, you'd pretty much destroy everything in its path. I suspect the edges on this box are capable of doing quite some damage if handled sloppy.

Looking inside we find 2 keepcases, one is the regular japanese single-disc edition, and then theres a additional bonus dvd with two dvds filled with bonus materiall about the movie and production. Both covers have nice artwork and are made to match when seen in the slipcase. But I'm still complaining about this and I still say they should've gone with digipacs.

And then there's the extra little touches any LE should not be with out, so what are they? Well first theres a Panic Room booklet. Unfortunately, its useless to me because of the japanese. Then theres a nice folded Panic Room Poster, something I always appreciate, only that I never actually take them out of the set and put them up on the wall for some reason. And then theres a bunch of high quality printed postcards, which I think were a little repetetive, they could've used other motives than just Jodie Foster and the girl.

That's it folks, on the exterior it was pretty promising with the original slipcase, but on the inside it fails abit on the extras side. If only we'd see more sets as packed as the Red Dragon set, that would be nice.

- Tsunami's Verdict -

- Build Quality: 8 -

I have nothing to say on the build, the box is excellent and solid, but the design on the it could've been alittle more fancy, the use of only 3 colors does not work in this dvd's advantage.

- Content and Extras: 3 -

There are some, but the booklet is useless to people that doesn't speak japanese, otherwise that would've been a nice extra. The poster is okay, the postcards were alittle boring as they only showed the same two characters over and over. But they are extras that work to some degree. I just wished there was more

- Overall Rating: 5 -
