Twins Effect Revival Edition (Thailand)
written by Juice / photos by Juice
This is going to be a short review of a LE that comes from Thailand, the Twins Effect
Revival Edition LE, limited to 1000 copies. From online pictures, the limited "bat"
edition looks pretty good. But the question is, how does it look on your DVD shelf?
| With this grim visage on the outside, it
certainly looks fierce. The LE is suprisingly heavy, but most of the weight comes from the
large bat figure which is on the front. In fact, it's so heavy that this box won't stand up
straight, instead, it'll fall forward if you try to balance it. You'll have to lean this bad
boy up against something in order to showcase it.

The detail in the bat is nice, and the detail
on the box itself is also nice, but what in the world is it made of? Tin? Paper? Cardboard?
How about a mix of all of the above? The bat itself seems to be made out of a heavy metal, and
is the highest quality part of the set. The outside of the box appears to be some sort of
pressed tin, but the scratches on my set lend me to believe it's a paper of some sort, with a
metallic gold finish and black embossing. Even with close inspection, I'm still not sure.
You can see the scratches on the picture below. |

| Inside the box you have a single disc, and a
plastic mini-sword. Below the DVD is some foam to protect it, and the dvd and mini-sword sit in a
plastic base. If you pull out the plastic base, and turn it over, you'll see what looks like a
piece of paper wrapped up and stuffed into the dimple that the DVD snaps down onto. Foolishly,
I wanted to know what in the world that piece of paper was, so I tore it out. It appears that
paper keeps the DVD "dimple" rigid, so now my DVD won't snap down into the case, and instead
floats around loosely. Whoops!
Obviously, this is not a great set. It looks ok in my case, but when you get close and pick it
up, you realize how poorly made it is.

It's a shame this isn't a better LE, especially since it's limited to such a low run.
But remember, this was originally priced at the same price as a lot of standard DVDs, so you're
paying for what you get. That said, if you plan on buying the movie, and can find this for it's
original price, it is a decent LE for it's price point. It also came packed in the same way over
in Hong Kong, the difference between the Hong Kong version is that the DTS track is in Cantonese,
instead of Thai as on this version. The Hong Kong is also a 2-disc set with more extras, and it
has a set of signed pictures. Its a couple of bucks more expensive but you get a little more as
well.
- Juice's Verdict -
- Build Quality: 4 -
I wish I could put this rating higher, but my set
is showing some damage from limited use. If it wasn't getting scratched, I'd put it at a 6, but with
the damage occuring so quickly...
- Content and Extras: 3 -
Plastic mini-sword, that isn't all that detailed,
no LE cert, no chapter list, etc. means a 3.
- Overall Rating: 4 -
For it's original price, even though I'm giving
this a low score here, I feel it's worth it. For anything more, absolutely not.
