Hellraiser Lament Configuration Limited Box (UK)

written by Juice / photos by Juice

Straight from the UK comes the Hellraiser Puzzle Box LE. A box fashioned Intelligently enough after the awesome cube(s) prevalent in the movie, this has the potential to be an excellent LE. Let's see how it stacks up against the competition!

Cardboard can only go so far. Pulling this box out of it's shipping package, you'll immediately notice how light it is. Not a good sign. An even worse sign is realizing that the HELLRAISER LE 4 Disc Box Set that is plastered across the front of the box is just that...plastered. It's simply a sticker.

Setting it down, you really start to feel dismay set it. Not only is it light, but it's flimsy and doesn’t' close properly. Look again at the image below and notice the gap that goes across the front of the box. That gap follows the box all the way around, and is not even uniform. Here are some images of the box being rotated, letting you see the crease/folds from all sides.

Pulling the cheap cardboard top off of the cube, but box folds open into a low budget cross form. The 4 discs are held on by glue on snaps, the booklet is a simply saddlewire book, full color but very small, adorned with screen caps from the various movies. It sits freely in the box, and is not held down

Closing the box can be a small exercise in frustration, since as you try to stuff three "walls" into the cap, the other one will fall out. Here is a good show of how the box doesn't sit properly.

Yikes. This is by far the worst LE I've not only owned, but seen. It looks ok when place far up on our DVD shelves, but more than once I've had friends come over and get excited until they actually get close to it and pick it up. From far away, it appears to be nicely built, but within 3 or 4 feet, you can tell it's just printed cardboard. Not a set I canrecommend for the LE title or box itself. If you're a diehard Hellraiser fan, knock yourself out.

- Juice's Verdict -

- Build Quality: 2 -

I'd give this a one, since it really is shoddy, but it does get it's job done and holds in the dvds. Poor quality craftsmanship, tearing edges, bad folding of the cardboard, cheap construction, all add up to a 2.

- Content and Extras: 1 -

Extras? You mean that little book stuck inside the box? That's just a standard insert that's smaller and has staples. Ugh. One more time, if you're a diehard Hellraiser fan, knock yourself out on this set. Otherwise, avoid.
