Dances With Wolves Special Edition (Korea)

written by Juice / photos by Juice

Allright, it's been too long since I put up a review, so I thought I'd go back to one of the first LE's I ever purchased. I fondly remember buying this and the Indiana Jones "luxury" set, which comes with the embossed leather planner.

I remember sitting down, opening up the box the two sets were stuffed in, and immediately smelling the sweet smell of leather. I dove my hands in and pulled out this sweet baby of a Limited Edition, the Dances With Wolves Korean LE.

Wow. Leather that is as soft as butter. Nice, deep embossing on the cover and the inside flap. A beautiful feather attached as a tie-around to close the case, not only attractive, but also following the American Indian feel of the Old West and capturing an element of the movie. Two snap cases with 2 DVDs in each, each case tastefully adorned with washed out screen caps from scenes in the movie, again, giving it that Old West feel. A sealed envelope, numbered denoting the LE number, stuffed with 10 cards showcasing big players in the movie. This is a good LE. I've already let you know what's inside this set, and you can tell I'm impressed by it's construction, design, and contents. But, it's detail time!

As you can see above, the contents are stored in a leather case that ties shut with a fantasticaly designed leather strap. Wrap it loosely around the set and tuck the other end with the feather into it, and voila, it's closed nicely.

The embossing on the cover is great, nice, deep, and stylish. Did I already mention how nice and soft the leather is? The stitching is solid and even.

Open the set and you'll see that the two DVD cases slide into a slot on the right side, with the postcards and the chapter list sliding into a slot on the left side. There is another great embossed area on the right side, showcasing the head of an Indian cheif.

The two cases are translucent, with over-exposed/washed-out imagery from the movie portrayed in both. DVD art is also nice, very classy.

The postcards come in a numbered envelope, and are all printed very nicely. The chapter list is a tri-fold, also nicely printed, with some more screen caps from the movie placed in it. The numbered envelope is a nice way to give you your edition number.

There is really only one bad thing I can say about this set. It was my first set...meaning that I took one look at it and thought that all LE's would match and exceed it in design and build quality. But seriously, this is a really incredible LE. A must have for anyone who wants to have a showpiece that any and all will want to pick up, hold, and look at.

- Juice's Verdict -

- Build Quality: 9 -

I can't see anything wrong with this set. Top notch leather, solid stitching, great construction, beautiful design, the only reason this gets a 9 instead of a 10 is the delicate feather attachment. Other than that, the build quality of this set is close to perfection.

- Content and Extras: 8 -

It only comes with 10 cards, a numbered envelope, and a chapter list. Still, I'm giving it an 8 because the quality and design of the contents is very nice. The old western style is kept with the faded look to the DVD inserts, and the cards themselves.

- Overall Rating: 9 -
