The Matrix Limited Attachè Case (UK)
written by Tsunami / photos by Tsunami
Straight outta' the good old UK. A nice looking Attachè set, for the 1999 blockbuster "The Matrix"
, which spawned two sequel. Limited to only 5000 copies. This promo-item is about to be reviewed
to the bone
| First off: If yer already looking for this item
you might have some luck on Ebay. This is a Promotional item, not intended for sale. So you won't,
or shouldn't be able to find this one in an online store, except only for the famous aftermarket on Ebay. |

At first sight this looks like a heavy solid metal case. But on closer inspection you'll notice that
only the protective edges of the case are made of metal. 90% of the surface is made of wood. Its a nice
illusion, and kinda hard to spot if you don't go in really close, or feel with you hand. So it is
somewhat lighter than I've had expected. The case is also much smaller than I'd expected from
looking at the horrid pictures of the set on ebay and elsewhere. But if you look at how much space
the dvd-box and the glasses make up you might get an idea of how big the set is.
There's isn't too many details to discuss on this box on the exterior, I would have liked an engraving
or bevelled letters on the exterior of the case to actually reflect that this indeed a Matrix release.
But as you can see, all of the surfaces are pretty much blank. The set features a fully funtional lock,
with a set of keys. The case-handle is also one of these illusions, its made of plastic and kinda looks like
metal if you ignore the pretty obivous seem that goes over the middle of the handle making it look very toy-ish, also the knobs on the base of the handle seems poorly constructed as you can jiggle them a bit too much in my opinion.
| The hinges are made metal, very solid and reliable. Metal-spikes for having it stand on display has also been added on the bottom of the case, nice and professional looking |

When you open the case you can see where most of the work and attention to detail has been spent.
Nice fitted foam to hold everything in place, even straps with velcrow to ensure nothing floats away.
Even though it thought it was a bit much with the velcrow strap to hold the sheet in place.
The sheet states that "This Attachè case is one of an exclusive limited number",
and further down on the sheet you see a nice green button in which the case number is printed.
Nice touch.

| In one of the holders you find "The Official Matrix Sunglasses" with a protective silk-imitation-bag which I though was a very nice extra |
|
And in the other holder you find a nice glossed box with the regular vertical matrix scriblings.
You open the box by pulling up the top. I could have wished for a different solution, like a
thicker box in carboard and just the regular slipcase-function. When you have managed to do that,
without bending the top lid of the box too much you find 3 dvdcovers. One is the good old hated
snapper case of "The Matrix", but the Showcase DVD and the official soundtrack both have nice
detailed digipac covers not unlike the digipacs from the Godfather set which also had an angled back.
If only they had taken the time to make a digipac for the movie as well.
WARNING! The edition of the movie contained in the box is the CUT UK edition. Cuts that leave the musical score in the movie out-of-sync.
- Tsunami's Verdict -
- Build Quality: 7 -
Overall it feels like a solid case. But on close inspection you'll
notice much of it is just an imitation of a different material. Designwise it lacks alot to be desired on the
exterior but evens it out with a very nice looking interior.
- Content and Extras: 8 -
The interior with its nice #'d sheet and its half-nice looking glossed matrix box and the ultra cool Matrix glasses and protective bag are all very very nice touches, but its hard to forgive the horrible cut edition of the movie, also being left in the sad old snapper case
- Overall Rating: 7 -
Overall a nice release, some very cool extras, the showcase dvd and OST have nice digipacs. Interior of the box is almost perfect. Exterior left alot to be desired. It's definitvly not an ultimate release of "The Matrix", but its an nice addition for collectors.
